Professional Development

Vice Presidents of Professional Development

Mission and Vision

Our committee is the professional and academic branch of the YPGA. We are there to support postgrads in their professional career development, whether it is pursuing academia or industry. We offer postgrads opportunities to strengthen their CV by inviting them to give a talk on their research at our monthly Let’s Talk Research Series, which also fosters a space that is open to scientific learning and networking. We support pre-med and pre-phd students along their application journey by hosting workshop series, providing study sessions, and securing one on one writing tutors. Our MAPS program facilitates mentorship in academia by pairing postgrads and postdocs together, facilitating connections of great value to those just starting their journey into academia, and those who are looking to teach what they have learned (which is an important skill to have when applying for faculty positions). At the same time, we encourage postgrads to look outside academia with our Alternate Careers Panel, which shares the stories of those who are trained in academia but left the field to pursue fascinating industry roles. Our 5 subcommittees work together to provide diverse support that is invaluable to the professional development of all postgrads at Yale.
